HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that.” Howard Thurman
2023 - Every new year I say: “it’s hard to believe, time goes so quickly”. Lately I’ve been reading old journals I have written. Reading about where I’ve gone, what I’ve experienced and all the emotions involved, has brought me closer to the answer of “what makes me come alive?” I have learned over the years that my journey begins with a choice to get up, step out and live fully. It is in the smallest details that the flavor of life is savored. So I ask myself “what makes things juicy? How can I create the antidote to my issues? How can I show up for myself from day to day?” For me the creative process brings me into a state of self-nurturing. Making art of any kind creates my own personal road map. It is in the creative zone where I find the answers to my questions. In a self-discovery class I recently taught, each of us chose a word for the year. My word is “trust” - not trust in others but trust in myself. Thus, my resolution for this coming year is to be present and live fully in whatever I choose to do and trust myself to do so.
I found the following short clip in one of my old journals. I didn’t write it. I don’t know who did so I can’t give credit but I thought it worth sharing in this blog. When we know ourself and what lights us up that is when we truly bring our gifts to the world. My wish for you is that this New Year will bring you home to yourself and all the gifts you have to offer.
SOMETHING YOU DO WELL
Focus on something that you do well and find a way to do it even better. The substance of value that you create is never wasted.
Choose something that you do well and find a way to make the fruits of your efforts available to those around you. By providing real value to others, you expand the treasures in your own life.
Take something you do well and find a way to make it enjoyable. The more you enjoy what you’re doing, the more effective you’ll be.
Find something you do well and teach it to others. The more you can duplicate your efforts, the more value there is for everyone.
Look at something you do well and consider the real, lasting sense of fulfillment it can bring. Remember that life is about making a difference.
The things you do well provide you with the opportunity to give of yourself in real and meaningful ways. That’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss.
